|...I had a feeling that I belonged...|
Dec. 23rd, 2011 08:56 pmMega swift update from Sweden.
I've not been at all well since I got here, filled with cold. ;_;
It's easing off now and I've had the chance to grab the last Christmas presents for Christian and his family.
Unsurprisingly, no response from job #6, I never got around to applying for job #7, and there hasn't been any others catching my eye in the run-up to Christmas, so it looks like job hunting is on hold for now - almost like a real holiday!!!
In other news, I've started debating with myself whether to stay with LiveJournal. I've had this account for years and I'm very fond of the website, but there's been so much bugging me recently. No changes for the better for a long time, the developers are entirely ignoring their user-base feedback, their Android App sucks, customisability is comparatively limited... I could export my journal content and get settled in on another blogging website (I think I'll do some shopping around), but I am a bit worried that I would just stop writing entirely.
Does anybody else here use Dreamwidth, etc? Any opinions or suggestions are welcome!
The headline/quotation is from Death Cab for Cutie. It feels good to be able to listen to them again.
Amazing how heavily music can be imbued with memories and association.
Tomorrow, I think I'll overhaul my icons and profile. Not for any particular reason except that I enjoy it and it's been a while since I gave my personal online 'space' a thorough tidy.
I know there's a couple of people who aren't on my Friends list - mainly because they aren't on LiveJournal at all! - who come and read my journal. Or, at least, as much of my journal as they can access without being on my F-list.
Basically, I'm requesting that if you read my journal, please do comment on this or any entry, just to let me know you're there.
My curiosity has finally got the better of me!
We went to Sweden at the end of July and got back last Tuesday.
Aside from a couple of rainy/cloudy days, the weather was perfect. It didn't bother me at all - still much warmer than Scotland and it gave us the opportunity to explore a bit of Stockholm's cultural side.
We went to Vasamuseet with SeeK's dad, which is the Swedish equivalent of the England's Mary Rose. Awesome day was awesome! We went on an English tour while we were there, resulting in SeeK and his dad saying "You could do this. This would be a good job, do this!"
I think I'll be keeping my eye on that museum for future positions, that's for sure. ^^
We also went back to Skansen, this time with SeeK's mum. Another really great day! It was so great to explore in the summer, as I swear it's a completely different place in the winter! A big advantage to going in the summer was the chance to see more of the animals out of hibernation - seeing grizzly bears was epic and their tongues are huuuuuuuuge! I managed to spot a sleepy wolf for SeeK's mum and successfully drew a whole crowd to the wolf enclosure who hadn't been able to see it before. (My eyesight must not be so bad yet then!)
The rest of the time was spent enjoying Sweden in its easy-going pace and lazy summer sunshine. We had a BBQ with Anden and Sofia in Uppsala, visited SeeK's mormor (who I managed to converse with almost entirely in Swedish! And who gave me a pearl necklace as a random present. So nice but so out of the blue! O_O), met up with Johan and Oskar, went to the summerhouse, swam a lot because the sea and river water was warmer than the air in Scotland (23 degrees!? OMG!), and played much Alfapet (Swedish Scrabble). Photos?!

The whole trip was exactly what we were both in need of to refresh us and solidified our intentions to move out there. It's intimidating and will take a lot of time and energy, but I know it would be the best thing for us both in the long run. Living together in the UK - Edinburgh in particular - is perfect for experiences and enjoying the festivals, but the quality of life offered out in Sweden is so much higher. The only real concerns I have are making friends out there and secure career progression. I've got established friend circles in various places in the UK and know for a fact that I could be big in my career here (how modest...). Those are two things that mean a lot to me and I hope that they'll translate to Sweden along with the rest of my life...
That's a couple of years down the line yet, but it's good to have a plan, right?
If you're interested in reading my monthly progress and updatings, add me? ^^';
Cheers, ma pplz. <3
P.S:
Totally redesigning that layout to match this one. ^^';;;;;;;
Whoooooo~!
Dec. 30th, 2009 03:15 amOkies, well, after three days...
I FINALLY MADE A NEW LIVEJOURNAL LAYOUT!!!! ^____________^
It's, like, the third this year, but seeing as the wonderful
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Thank you, honey! I sooooo appreciate this. Think I might get addicted though - d'oh! ^^';
Only problem I'm having with the layout is the bottom background picture and what resolution/size to make it. Different screens mean people see different things. Arg! >_<
But other than that... what do you guys think?
Anyway, off to bed to sleep peaceful sleep and dream happy dreams and wake up to a happy day and celebrate Carro's birthday.
Night night, world~!
Regressing, Much!?
Jun. 13th, 2009 01:22 amMaaaaaaaan, 10 days without an update!?
How thoroughly shocking.
This will be a beast an update now, I'm sorry!
( Read The Beast!!! )
Uhm...
So, yeah.
The quarter-life crisis is continuing.
I'm doing the grown-up things like job-hunting, but I'm also equally back-lashing by attempting to avoid as much responsibility as I can.
Tomorrow with my family should be... interesting.
Will doubtlessly update and shizzle~!
Also just realised that this is my 500th LJ entry!!!!!!
Whoooooooooop~!
Night night! ^_^
Stuff & More Memes~!
Aug. 6th, 2008 07:34 pmMmm. *Stretches*
Few things to say today...
First off, omgz, Re~! *Glomps*
Thank youuuuuuuuu!!! You're a sweetie, really you are. We need to talk more! Why are you never online, hm?
Anyway, thank you, your prezzie made me smile. ^_^
Secondly, noticed there's some familiar faces suddenly springing up round and about the lands of LiveJournal. Hello to thee~!
Thirdly...
Erm, I can't remember the third.
Such a bad memory the last couple of days. Man.
Anyway, have a meme.
( DVD Meme )
Right, so, I have work in seven hours, but I'm still awake cos I'm a goof.
And I majorly screwed up my layout earlier.
*Sheepish grin*
So, Chris, ever the hero, has stepped in and sorted it all out like the gem he is.
Been spending the last four hours on it, so y'all better like it!
Erm...
And yeah.
Almost good night, I guess~!
Plus, I need new layouts.
New LJ layout.
New MySpaz layout.
New desktop layout.
Pffffffffft.
Also, I had a dream that I was possibly pregnant.
I looked through my list of pregnancy test results, which were based on a sort of bar, and had phrases defining what the position on the bar meant. So it went like this:
11th of December - Far right - "You are pregnant! If you're gonna have an arbortion, do it now."
12th of December - Middle - "It's just a rumour. Maybe yes, maybe no. Tough luck."
12th of December - Middle - "You might be pregnant, but most likely you just want to be. Sorry."
I mean, that's strange enough.
The rest of the dream was proper mental, so I'll not even attempt to go into that!
But I woke up and asked Chris if I'd ever had a positive pregnancy test which I just ignored and he was like...
"...Erm... Not as far as I know. O_O..."
Crazy times.
Crazy.
Holidaaaaaaaay~!
Jul. 16th, 2008 01:07 amMan. I rock.
Anyway, we're heading off to Manchester later today!!!
Death Cab gig tonight!!!!!!!
Edinburgh on Thursdaaaaay~!!!!!!
And by the time Monday comes around, I'll probably be suffering a severe case of sore back and ready-to-murder-my-brother syndrome.
But it'll be fun fun fun, nonetheless!
Will most likely have the ability to update while I'm away, so...
Post sooooon!
Such A Geek...
Apr. 29th, 2008 08:46 pmA few things to say today. *Shocking*
So, I didn't go to uni. *Double shocking*
It was Jean's lesson and therefore somewhat irrelevant to, well, life.
Instead, I've been researching on my presentation for tomorrow which is quite simply going to be the uber-est presentation I will ever do.
Auschwitz - so, Nazis, so, my strength - and therefore still a very controversial point of discussion.
I'd never really thought about it like this until reading a certain article, but any restoration or minor alterations for, say, structural support that the management of Auschwitz make instantly leaves them open to accusations of 'tampering' with the evidence of the Nazi's crimes against humanity. It must be a horrible scenario to be stuck in, needing to preserve the environment, but without changing anything. Mmm.
But, yeah, hey, lookit that, there's a taster of how amazingly ace it's going to be! Woo~!
<EDIT>
ALSO! I have just discovered a quite disgusting fact. Auschwitz's annual budget is £3.5 million. Lincoln Cathedral's annual budget is £3.7 million. Yes, the cathedral is unusual, blah blah blah, but in my personal opinion the preservation of a site such as Auschwitz certainly warrants larger financial assistance. ARG! I'm so angry about that it's unreal. ¬_¬';
</EDIT>
Anyway.
Went for free ice cream with Ollie~! (Although, all the ice cream had pretty much sold (? Can free things sell out?) out by the time we got there, so we got sorbet instead... yummy yummy!)
And then we all got distracted and had Wok'n'Grill yummyness. The guy there is still as lovely as ever. ^___________^
"Gemma Orangeblack... how dirty..." BWHAHAHA.
Oh, and...
So, yesterday, I found out that Bev's actually been reading my good ol' LJ for a little while now. I did wonder if there was much point in me ever linking to it as, well, y'know, I figure my life is so incredibly boring that no one would ever be even slightly interested in reading it. Even though I compulsively obsess over other people's journals, I guess I've never really thought that anyone would consider doing the same over mine.
Anyway, point being, it just made me wonder who else might be reading it.
It would be nice to know.
Hello to whoever is reading this, friends list or not. ^-^
Also, Bev says I write really well. *Squishy happiness of goo!!!* Made me very happy. What a lovely compliment!!!!!!!
Ho hum, back to Powerpoint...
Such work...
Feb. 6th, 2008 11:55 pmOnly two since the start of February?! Eh!?
Time to rectify that!
Uni's just been knackering.
I actually made an effort to go to all my lectures this week. Turned up late to two - one was due the buses ignoring the fact that passengers need time to get on the bus before it drives off, though... Grrr.
I'm making an effort to get everything organised now.
Tomorrow will be a busy day.
Doing at least one essay plan tomorrow.
Going to the library, then the uni library, grabbing the first Fruits Basket manga, whilst hunting for Polish history in Lincoln (don't ask...).
Getting in touch with the Lincolnshire Echo.
Re-dyeing my hair! ^____^
First Edit:
Gah! And organising my placement at the Usher! Which I keep forgetting about! Damn placement!!!
Went to see Cloverfield tonight! It was damn good! Frustrating, cos it doesn't really tell you anything about why what's going on is going on, and I think that the audience wasn't given the opportunity to become attached enough to the main cast, but the concept and the camera work was fantastic! The special effects were jaw-dropping. Very, very realistic. Was very impressed by that.
Very good movie, had more potential than they worked into it, though.
Second Edit:
ROFL! The creature was apparently, according to the concept artist, suffering from a serious case of "separation anxiety"!!! Awww!!!
Oh, and watched the first episode of Romeo x Juliet finally! It was good, I liked it muchly, it gives and interesting spin on the traditional tale. Will be curious to find out how it all plays out and such...
Yeah, that's about it for my oh-so-interesting life.
Think I'll go cuddle with my Chris 'til I fall asleep. *Smile*
Warning::: Cosplay Urges
Jan. 13th, 2008 06:51 pmI want to go to an anime convention.
But they're all fully booked up!!!
No way in hell would both me and Chris get into Amecon now...
Looks like Fuyucon 2009's gonna have be the option. Will let Nikki know and see what we can arrange.
T'is odd though...
I'll have graduated by then...
O_o
Eep.
Ooo, and a random Lincolnshire person discovered my journal.
This makes me curiously happy.
Perhaps now I'll discover who keeps pilfering all the good anime from HMV before I get there...
Anyway.
Another essay to do...
*Sigh*
Back to work.
